Technical Training Bulletin
Good morning association. Please take note of the following technical training information in response to the Covid-19 pandemic:
Hello,
The Government of Alberta is taking unprecedented steps as part of an overall strategy to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Advanced Education has been working with eleven post-secondary institutions who deliver technical training to determine the best course of action that will help protect the health of apprentices, instructors and staff.
The March-April and May-June intakes for apprenticeship education are cancelled. For now, registration has been disabled so apprentices will not be able to register for any upcoming classes in the May-June time period.
For apprentices who started technical training started on or after March 2, 2020:
Priority will be given to affected apprentices to reschedule for the 2020/21 academic year. (Details will follow in the coming weeks.) Apprenticeship students have been instructed to discuss tuition refund options with their institutions.
For apprentices who started technical training program started before March 2, 2020:
Apprenticeship students have been told to contact their institution on whether or not their technical training will be considered complete or if distance learning will be available. Distance delivery will begin the week of March 23, 2020.
Apprentices who complete the program and are in good academic standing will not be required to challenge the provincial theory or practical examinations.
Counter services and exams are suspended
Until further notice, AIT counter service and exams being written at an AIT office will be suspended. In addition, all practical exams will also be suspended. Reintroduction of these services will be dependent on the development of a plan that protects the health of AIT staff and clients.
How to get in touch with AIT
Services will continue to be provided online through MyTradesecrets and through the AIT Information Line: 1-800-248-4823.
Apprentices are being encouraged to upload and submit documents through their MyTradesecrets account. Any documents that needs to be sent to an AIT office can be uploaded, such as record books, employer letters or transcripts. More information is available here: Tradesecrets.Alberta.ca/upload.
For updates on the Government of Alberta’s actions to protect Albertans and prevent the spread of novel coronavirus, visit alberta.ca/covid19. Updates affecting apprenticeship programs will also be posted on Tradesecrets.alberta.ca.
