Building Envelope Code Changes

Billy will discuss the Alberta’s new building energy requirement and National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB).  New buildings in Alberta after November 1st 2016 will need to demonstrate compliance with the NECB at the building permit stage. The first half of the presentation will cover some of the core compliance requirements (envelope, lighting, HVAC, etc.) and how to navigate NECB code for new projects in Alberta. The second half of the presentation will discuss the potential impact on the glazing industry and when it is suitable to use energy modelling for NECB compliance.

Presenter:

Billy is a Professional Engineer with over twelve years of building science engineering experience and a Principal with Morrison Hershfield Limited (MH).  He works as a Department Manager for the Building Science Edmonton group where he leads a team of 10 building science staff.

Billy has managed and been involved on various projects including: building envelope commissioning, quality assurance on new construction projects, construction document preparation, construction contract administration, and building envelope condition assessments. He has worked on numerous projects involving the use of window wall and curtain wall systems and has extensive experience in field-testing of glazing and air barrier systems.
