Top Glass Returning to Calgary for 2025

Building off the great success of Top Glass West 2024, Canada’s conference for the architectural glass industry will return to Calgary Oct. 20 and 21 for two days of education, discussion and relationship-building bringing glaziers, fabricators and facade designers together. The agenda is set, the vendors have piled in with support and now all we need is YOU!

See the magic happen

On Oct. 20, attendees can tour Goldray Glass, on of Canada’s premier fabricators of specialty glass for all applications. This video from Goldray explains what you will see better than we ever could…https://youtu.be/BYB-aq5ROs4

An all-star agenda

Come on out to the Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre on Oct. 21 to join the discussion with these great speakers.

Test Once and Scale: The Fenestration Canada thermal performance calculator

Oct. 21 opens at 9:30 at the Best Western Premier in Calgary with Fenestration Canada technical director, Terry Adamson, revealing the Fenestration Canada online thermal calculator, which has now been approved by the city of Vancouver with more jurisdictions soon to come. The calculator solves the problem of having the performance of fenestration assemblies certified at certain sizes, but not the sizes your project demands. It allows you to scale up or down the size and obtain new performance data without re-testing. Saving time and money – what’s not to love?

Inside LuxWall: An exclusive look at vacuum insulating glass manufacturing

Next, Art Huard of NVOY Architectural Products will take attendees inside the most advanced glass fabrication facility in North America: LuxWall’s vacuum insulating glass transparent insulating wall panel plant in Litchfield, Mi. This is where former Guardian Glass executive, Scott Thomsen, – backed by Bill Gates, among others – is making Enthermal VIG units achieving R-18 insulating values in an eight-millimeter-thick pane. Almost nothing about this process is like anything you’ve seen in a glass fabrication plant before.

GAMA Apprenticeship Awards

Let’s celebrate the next generation of Canadian glaziers! The smiles are big and the future is bright when the Glass and Architectural Metal Association hands out its awards recognizing outstanding apprentices in the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s glazier program. Top Glass West is proud to help encourage our next generation of skilled glass professionals.

Fireproof Fenestration: Time to get ready for wildfire resistance requirements

Some people would curl up in a ball if their beautiful new cabin burned down two days before their first planned visit with the family, but Murry Frank has used the terrible experience as a learning opportunity. One of Canada’s leading building science educators, Frank will take lessons learned from that tragedy, combine them with what he’s been hearing and discussing on the codes and standards development committees he sits on, stir vigorously with 40 years of building science knowledge, and deliver a heady elixir of information about wildfire resilience in fenestration design.

The One Number Panel

By some counts, fenestration assemblies need to meet up to 19 different standards before they can be installed and the building approved for occupancy. Many of those address energy efficiency and efficiency-adjacent issues such as airtightness and solar heat gain, with embodied carbon soon to jon the list. What if there were a way to get rid of it all, and drive innovation and a better climate outcome at the same time? We’ve assembled a blue ribbon panel of top sustainable building experts to chew over the idea of asking project owners to hit One Number: the total carbon emissions created by their buildings over their life span. It’s a wild concept, and we need your opinions on it.
